Born and raised
in Humboldt County California, Eric has drawn and painted since he
was a child and has been painting professionally for over 15 years.
Having grown up on a farm (his father grew potatoes), he has always
felt drawn to rural areas and their inherent beauty.
Eric subscribes
to the idea that art is an enduring record of an emotional response
to our environment.
"I find myself
drawn to painting scenes that reflect a sense of tranquility, of
finding beauty in unexpected places, and of almost meditative
simplicity."
He is fascinated
by light and its subtleties, be it the bright, golden light and deep
blue violet shadows of a summer evening or the muted, cool light
from a sunless window playing across the skin of an
apple.
Eric uses professional grade paint on Arches 140 lb.
cold-pressed paper, materials that he feels are well-suited to
capture the fleeting transparent effects of light. He strives
for a balance between representation and subtle abstraction. The
work allows for a level of interpretation on the part of the viewer,
while at the same time capturing the combination of factors that
sparks Eric’s emotional response, especially the light of a
particular place and time of day, its effects on the subjects and
atmosphere, and the overall mood it creates. |
